remove content block/move menubar/align icons - oDesk

I need assistance with removing an empty content block from my front page. Im currently using joomla 2.5. The menu item type is "single article" since i have to choose an article in order for my page to display i chose an empty article and now im stuck with an empty content block which i would like for it to be removed. I also need my menu bar to be moved to the left just a bit i tried padding but its not working for me. And last i also need to align the twitter and facebook icons so that its horizontal to the menu bar.
