English-Arabic Translator - oDesk

We are a group of researchers in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University working on translation interfaces. This job asks you to translate 658 words from English to Arabic. You should translate the sentences as quickly and as accurately as you can. While you work, our website will record your keystrokes and mouse actions. No other information will be recorded, except for some generic survey data. We will study the method that you and other translators like you used to translate sentences.



We invite your bids on this job. It is the first in a series of translation studies that we are running over the next few months. If you submit good translations, then we will ask you to join us for future studies.



We will hire 16 translators.



TERMS:

Once you start a translation, you may pause for no longer than 3 minutes during the session. If you pause for longer than 3 minutes, then your current translation will be automatically submitted. For each sentence that you exceed the "idle timer," we will deduct that many words from the final price that you are paid.



The job will be completed on a website. The website includes a tutorial that will quickly orient you with the interface and the job. Then the website will guide you through the following tasks:



Tutorial (less than 5 minutes)

Translation Job #1 (about 320 words)

Break (untimed)

Translation Job #2 (about 320 words)



When creating your translation, you are not allowed to use:

*Machine translation systems (for example, Google Translate, Language Weaver)

*Browser plugins or extensions



You may use dictionaries, either online (for example, wordreference.com) or offline.



REQUIREMENTS:

We require that you run the odesk Team Tracker software while you work.



We also require that you take the following odesk tests:

*English spelling test (U.S. version)

*English vocabulary test (U.S. version)

*U.S. English Basic Skills test

*U.S. Word Usage Test

*English to Arabic Translation Skills Test
